blog #4- wendy meyer

Tacit means the unspoken meaning used by the creator of something. The design displayed shows the meaning of the piece without having to explain it in words.

Old way of meaning is the meaning is dependent on context.   www.attik.com/#/menu-advertising/tacobell.

New way of meaning is an object has a purpose. "Objects designed through the consideration of meaningful situations have the capacity to express what can be created out of them".

The sleeping-walking approach to design is simply creating innovative ideas that may include potentially disastrous, or surprisingly successful ideas. It is like going in blind , not knowing what will happen or what will come of the work, but the work turns out successful.

The complementing approach is doing the work by the book, and the results are what is expected.

The expanding approach is introducing the same product, but adding "new and improved" features to add more interest, yet still within the guidelines of what is expected.

The opposition approach is purposely creating a product opposite of the complementary approach. Doing this could either open the eyes of the viewer to see something that was hidden, and that can be useful, or this approach could lead to complete destruction of that idea.

The re-conceptualization approach is taking an idea or product, and recreating something new from that product.

The c0-design approach is having more than one designer working on an idea. Pairing the user of a product with a designer is really great because the designer gets a first hand look at the user's experience, and can then create a product that may be more efficient.
In my opinion, i don't think i can find any example of how an artist created their work, whether it was intentionally a sleepwalking approach, or complementing or any of the other approaches discussed.  Their work is the final product, and whether or not the work looks as if they used the opposition approach, or the complementing approach, it all looks the same to me; how am i supposed to know what approach the creator used, when in the end, their boss likes it, and it's on the internet as an advertisement.

A metaphoric running line "propels the reader through a sequence of pages, encouraging the turning of the page".  In doing this, it creates relationships between dance, play, and design.
An example of this is shown when reading a book, and one must turn the page to get to the exciting part of the story.  This is also an example of how the rhythm of the story lures a person to want to turn the page.  This is like a dance for the eyes.
When a book has pictures and colorful, bold type, this is also a dance, as well as play. This is entertaining the eyes to see the colorful type and the pictures.  Pop-up books are examples of all three elements. The design of the pop-up itself, the play- it's fun looking at it, and experiencing the moment the picture pops up, and it's a dance for the eyes.
